Puddles in Your Crawl Space Are Not Normal

Puddles in a crawl space, are not normal?

I always thought since the crawl space is under the home that it was normal to have puddles. After all, the ground gets wet and dry with different types of weather. It just seemed then, that the crawl space would have to have water in it.

Having puddles of water in the crawl space of a home is not good. However, what ruins your home is the moisture. Moisture can cause mold, rot, energy loss, and attracts pests into the crawl space. Did you realize up to 50% of the air in a home comes from below?

You must find out how or why the water is getting into the crawl space. Has there been a plumbing leak? How about seepage from the surrounding soil from a heavy rain? It could be condensation, for an example: Humidity condenses on cold surfaces, like ducts, and may cause dripping onto the crawl space floor.

SERVPRO can extract, pull up old vapor barriers, clean, sanitize, and replace with lime and put down new vapor barriers. SERVPRO has submersible sump pumps, dehumidifiers and air movers to help with drying out the crawl space.

Don’t wait; call SERVPRO of Vermilion County to help dry out your crawl space today. We are just a phone call away, 217-443-0077.
