Sewage Backup Bathroom Sewage Backup

You come home to a broken pipe in your newly finished basement. The cream colored plush carpet has sewage covering every inch. There is also up to 3 inches of sewage over the baseboards and going up the white walls.

Here is what you will need to do immediately:

*To begin with you will need rubber boots, rubber gloves, protective eyewear, and a facemask

*Do not let your skin come into contact with the sewage or any item that may have been contaminated.

*Close doors between the contaminated room and other rooms

*Use a sump pump or wet/dry vacuum to remove any water

*Use a shovel and a very strong bag to remove the heavier debris

*Move all contents to a separated area so it will be easier to clean and sanitize the floor

*Remove any saturated carpet and pad, flooring, insulation, paneling, drywall, and baseboard

*Wash down all floors, walls and affected area with hot water and appropriate bactericidal disinfectants/ followed by a deep cleaning with a brush

*After cleaning make sure all areas are dry by using fans and dehumidifiers

*After area is dry, check for any secondary growth or mold

*Discard any food or porous material items that may have been contaminated

* Any electrical, and plumbing systems checked along with any appliances that may have been contaminated

All of the above steps should be completed to make sure your home is sanitized and safe for you and your family.
